Why did I start my own practice?

I have been a physical therapist for 20 years now. I love working with babies and young children. I was really looking for the best way to use all of the skills I have gained through countless hours of continuing education. I wanted to treat using my hands, using the modalities I am trained in.

Most of my experience has been in early intervention traveling to homes and working with families. I have a love hate relationship with early intervention. Each state has an early intervention program and they all seem to function differently. I lived in Charleston, SC with my husband from 2017-2021 and that’s where my son, Duke was born. I worked in early intervention down there and loved my job. When we moved to Massachusetts I got a job in early intervention, and noticed programs run differently.

Since I have been a therapist for a long time, I have a vast array of knowledge and experience with different therapy techniques, modalities, etc. I was not able to use that experience in an early intervention setting. I wasn’t acting as a physical therapist but more had to be an “early interventionist”. I could not treat babies the way they needed to be treated and I could not fully use all of the skills I developed throughout my career. I was being told how often I could see a baby for therapy and what I could do. There are too many time sensitive diagnoses that babies have that require skilled, consistent therapy.

Ahoy Baby Physical Therapy and Wellness was created so I could use all of the knowledge and skills I gathered throughout the years as a pediatric physical therapist. I could treat babies as much as they needed and with the kind of therapy that would benefit them more. I have always wanted a clinic space and honestly driving around for the last 20 years has really taken a toll on me. I wanted to create a warm, welcoming, nurturing space for families. Ahoy Baby is here to help babies and young kids through their development.
